Information on renting our mobile home in Provence
Having spent idyllic summers in Provence, John and I decided that we would offer our friends the opportunity to experience the area that has given us so much pleasure.
Our mobile home is situated right on the edge of a site called Les Lacs du Verdon in a small area where only residents are situated. Thus, the emplacements are all beautifully cared for and are very quiet. We relax on our sunbeds and look over the trees in the adjacent woodland. The mobile home has two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, kitchen and comfortable lounge/dining area.
The area is extremely picturesque revealing deep wooded valleys, mountains, rolling olive groves and vineyards, all interspersed with terracotta houses with the characteristic tiled roofs. Villages are etched into the mountains and spill over into the lakeside. In June and July, endless fields of lavender perfume the air.
Should you choose to take us up on our invitation to explore this wonderful area, you will find that the possibilities are endless. Why not:
- Swim, walk, sunbathe or just relax by the Lac de St. Croix, just 7 miles away.
- Visit some of the chateaux, sit overlooking the vineyard while you indulge in some 'degustation' and buy some to drink later, or indeed take home
- Browse around the markets, which sell anything from cheeses, olive oil and lavender to patchwork quilts and local pottery. Our favourite market is in the nearby town of Aups, situated in a shady square where you can sit in a pavement café and watch the world go by
- Drive around the Gorges Du Verdon, also known as the Grand Canyon of Europe which has breathtaking views
- Choose from the many cafes and restaurants, for example
- La Provencale in Aups where you sit under a gigantic tree and can choose from local specialities, such as Moules aux Provence or Soupe au Pistou or sample one of the 'menus' which offer such wonderful value.
- Take pot luck at Bon Maman in our local village of Regusse which daily serves a four course meal with wine for 13 euros!
- Treat yourself at Brunos where this renowned chef offers a menu strongly influenced by truffles for which he is famous. From the moment that a uniformed attendant parks your car to when you enter the tree covered terrace and look out over the illuminated garden, you know you're somewhere special. When you taste the food, this is confirmed!
- After visiting Lorgues market indulge in a lazy lunch in the tree shaded courtyard of the Hotel de Parc where a three course meal plus wine costs only 12 euros. C'est fantastique!
There are so many more places to try, where a four - course meal costs the same as a main course in England
Of course, if you fancy a quiet evening at home, there is a hob and microwave in the van plus a barbeque outside, so why not sit and sip your wine under the stars and cook some of that lovely produce you bought in the market!
A visit to Provence would not be complete without visiting some of the exquisite little villages. Bauduen is on the way to the lake and has a lovely bar/restaurant and a good walk to the chapel overlooking the lake with wonderful views. A twenty minute walk through the woods from our site is Moissac with tiny winding streets, a little pavement café and unbelievable views, only matched by Tourtour the 'village in the sky' where the breathtaking views and winding picturesque streets full of pavement cafés and Art galleries make it the jewel of the area. Regusse is our nearest village where a stroll through the back streets reveals a wealth of lovely hidden courtyards and alleyways. The weekly Sunday market sells lovely fresh produce from the region plus pottery, plants etc. They all have their own special charm.
If, some days, you want to go further afield, then a drive to Cassis on the south coast where the highest cliffs in Europe look over the brilliant blue sea and boats, which will take you on a trip round the different callanques (or fjords) which are a feature of this stretch of coast. Drive to Hyeres where you can catch boats to the islands or if you wish to mingle with the rich and famous, St. Tropez, Frejus, or St. Maxime are only 90 minutes away.
